2008 Officers President - Pat Hatten Archaeology Fair on October 13, 2007!
In conjunction with Texas Archeology Month there will be an open house and fair on October 13, from 1:00-5:00 P.M. There will be tours of the on-site museum and visitor’s center, and the guided tours of the interpretive trail that winds through the site. Visitors can view the open pits and see the artifacts and features left by the local inhabitants thousands of years ago. Other activities will include interactive spear throwing with an ancient device called an atlatl, pebble painting, fire making, and food processing
. The LCRA Natural Science Center staff will be assuming the management and operation of the Nightengale Archaeological Center on October l. The LCRA Archaeology Services staff is assisting in the transition. The change will allow the Archaeology Services staff to provide more in-house cultural resource assessments to meet regulatory requirements associated with upcoming LCRA construction/development projects. A member of the Natural Science Center staff will be present at the September LUAS meeting to discuss the upcoming student tour programs at the Center this Fall. There will be a number of special activities, including planned American Indian story telling, dancing, singing and drum performances. Stay tuned for updates. The 14th annual archeology teacher workshop was held July 24 and 25. Over 25 persons attended, most school teachers from across center and north central Texas. Many thanks to LUAS members Pat Hatten, Doris Howard, Al Priest, and Ned Woodall, who all assisted. Spring 2007 Archeology Open House ( Photos HERE) An open house and fair was held at the NAC on March 24. There were activities for both adults and children. Site Cleanup Day (More Photos HERE) On March 10 we got ready for the archeology fair by policing the grounds, cleaning the trails, Lab Sessions LUAS members have been processing and analyzing artifacts from previous LUAS field trips. Anyone is welcome to show up for everything from data entry to washing. Labs are held by reservation only, from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M. during one of the regularly scheduled public tour sessions.
